About Me
I joined the service in 1976 after an advert appeared in the Inverness Courier looking for a Technical Operator. After an interview, which I might add was quite rigorous, I was accepted and after training I started on a show called Anything Goes which was presented by Jennie Drummond. The programme was mainly jazz and was on every Monday. In the early 80’s a slot became available, after a rejigging of the weekly schedule, and my programme Bedrock came into existence. The rest they say is history and a hobby I really love in that through us all, we help in a small way, to make patients stay in hospital that wee bit easier by playing a favourite song for them or just a mention of their name along with a message from a loved one. My musical tastes are easy listening and country and that is usually reflected in Bedrock. I have had the pleasure to work with a lot of great people in the service one of which is Iain MacKintosh who I have presented the Monday evening programmes with him for many years. I have now retired from my family butchers business and have time to enjoy hobbies. These range from holidays with my family, playing golf, watching most sports, going to the gym and very importantly playing with my cars, of which I have one or two!!!!
Why Do You Volunteer for Highland Hospital Radio
I had not long returned to the family business in Inverness and had to attend on out patients clinic in the Royal Northern Infirmary one day. At the end of the ward was a box fitted to the wall looking for requests for patients. I wanted to get involved in something and that box gave me the idea to join the Service. Funnily enough an advert appeared the next week in the local paper and I got hooked.
