Talking about Alcohol harms and support on 'Be My Guest'

The most recent Scottish Government data obtained via the Scottish Health Survey shows that 81% of over 16s asked consume alcohol, a reduction from the 2021 figure of 84%.  In the same period, general hospital admission resulting from conditions wholly attributable to alcohol have reduced by 37.5% between 2007/08 and 2022/23 (532 per 100,000).  So, for many Scots, alcohol does not represent a harm to them, or those around them.  But, in the cases where alcohol does become harmful, what support is available?

In our latest edition of 'By My Guest' we welcome 4 people to the studio to tell us of their experience of Alcohol harm and how they have managed to find sobriety with the help and support of other alcoholics through Alcoholics Anonymous.

The fundamental core or Alcoholics Anonymous is maintaining the anonymity of its members and so the names of our guests have been changed, but the stories they tell are completely true. They have chosen to record them for our programme in the hope that someone hearing their story will reach out for help if they find themselves in the same situation. Each 'share' you will hear may be challenging as we hear of the damaging effects of alcohol addiction have had, and as such we ask listeners to consider using discretion in choosing to listen.
